It came as music to our ears, after last night news broke that Australia will again be competing in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Next year the song contest will be held in Kiev, Ukraine, where the Grand Final will take place on May 3, 2017. Established in 1956, the annual sing-off has drawn world attention from millions of viewers, becoming a cult favourite to watch at home.

Guy Sebastian first represented Australia on the international stage in 2015, while last year Dami Im donned the green and gold, taking home second place. There hasn’t been any news yet, on who may hold the Aussie flag next year.

But it got me thinking – who should represent Australia in 2017? With a sweep of famous performers, past and present, there is no shortage of talent that could make us proud over in Europe.

So in no particular order, here are some faves that could tear up the Ukraine stage next year:

Jimmy Barnes

The working class man is a well loved performer and with a string of past number one hits, could propel our chances of winning the competition. His 80’s rock chorus may not be perfectly suited to Europe’s poppy tastes but he could nonetheless be a shining example of Australian music.
